Hi, I'm Jill.
I’m a software engineer.
Before transitioning into tech, I worked in children’s publishing, both as an author and editor. I’ve always loved books, and it was really rewarding to work with other people who share that passion, and to create new books that would inspire young readers.
It was actually my interest in story telling that first led me to explore programming. I learned about this platform called Twine, which allows you to write interactive stories. It was my first introduction to writing if statements and creating objects. I thought that it was so powerful to be able to use programming to shape the story around the readers' choices.
It wasn’t a straight jump into coding from there, but it showed me how fun coding could be and that I had a certain aptitude for it. I have a lot of friends who are developers and they encouraged me to pursue it as a career option. So when the pandemic hit and I had more time that’s exactly what I did. I love that with coding I’m still able to be creative and build things for people. And I really want to continue using the skills I’ve developed to put technology into people’s hands that can inspire them or make some aspect of their lives a little bit easier.
